La Poste to issue new sports stamps

On May 18, 2019, La Poste issues a block of 6 stamps in a new series on sport to extend over a 5-year period. France is in the spotlight in 2019 with 6 sporting disciplines: basketball, canoeing, football, hockey, table tennis and volleyball.
The choice of disciplines was made in relation to the various competitions scheduled to take place mainly in France and Europe during 2019:
- Wheelchair Basketball: National Games of the Future from May 29 to June 1 in Valencia
- Canoeing -Kayaking: Men’s European Championships from May 31 to June 2 in Pau
- Football: Women’s World Cup from 7 June to 7 July in France
- Field Hockey: European Men’s Championships from 16 to 28 August in Antwerp, Belgium
- Volleyball: Men’s European Championships September 13 to 29 in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Slovenia
- Table Tennis: European Championships in September in Nantes
The round miniature sheet is a technical innovation and represents the world map recalling that sport is a unifying force worldwide. Each year, a continent will be represented.
The sheet will be sold beginning on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Paris at the headquarters of the French National Olympic Committee (CNOSF), Maison du Sport Français, from 10:00 to 17:00, 1 avenue Pierre de Coubertin 75013 PARIS, in the presence of top athletes. Also in attendance: Sandrine CHIMBAUD, designer of the stamps, will be signing stamps from 10am to 12:30 and from 14h to 16h.
A bonus for those attending the event will be an opportunity to view a philatelic exhibition on the theme of sport (Pierre de Coubertin, women’s sports, Alice Milliat, disabled sports, sports shooting, volleyball, field hockey, canoeing, women’s football, table tennis and rugby) presented by AFCOS, the French Association of Olympic and Sports Collectors.
The stamps will also be available on 18 May at the Carré d’Encre, from 10:00 to 17:00, 13 bis rue des Mathurins 75009 PARIS.
A special cancellation will be available at C.N.O.S.F. Maison du Sport Français, then at the Carré d’Encre and the cancellation service at Boulazac.
From May 20, 2019, the block of 6 stamps will be sold in some post offices, the Museum of La Poste, 21 avenue du Maine, 75015 PARIS, and on the website www.laposte.fr/boutique, by subscription or by correspondence to Phil@poste.
