Eurosportstamp 2018 – Maurizio Tecardi Award

The 2018 edition of Milanofil ended this year and was hosted in the pavilions of the new “Superstudio più” in via Tortona 27. Numerous as always, the appointments held during the two days of the event; among the many, what touched our association more closely, that is the competition organized to commemorate the unforgettable President Maurizio Tecardi. “Eurosportstamp 2018 – Maurizio Tecardi Award” has been awarded to the stamp made by the Republic of Latvia that has beaten the postal administrations of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Poland. The decision of the jurors Pierangelo Brivio, President of UICOS, Mario Armano and Mauro Checcoli, both Olympic Champions, was not easy because the three stamps were very similar both from a technical point of view and as regards originality and innovation. The initiative it is right to remember was dedicated to enhancing the best stamp or block leaflet to sports subject issued in the period between Januar 2014 and December 2017. At the award ceremony, which took place in the “Daylight” hall, in addition to the jury the entire board of directors of the UICOS and the Consul General of the Republic of Latvia in Milan, Mrs. Patrizia Signorini, intervened; the dott. Andrea Alfieri, representing the top management of Poste Italiane, was complimented by the brilliant initiative with a double meaning: if on the one hand it combines philately and sport in an indissoluble way, on the other it aims to remember a decisive figure in the universe of collecting sport philatelist. Also present was the author of the stamp’s sketch, the designer Ludis Danilāns, well known in Latvia for being the author of the sketches of countless stamps issued by the Latvian Post, accompanied by his son Ēriks; the artist was given a souvenir medal of the event put on his neck, according to the Olympic ceremonial, by the President Brivio.
